Becky Choma
My research spans social, political, justice, and personality psychology. In general, I study tolerance and intolerance. In one line of research, I study antecedents of socio-political orientations that are linked with tolerance and intolerance (e.g., prejudicial attitudes, political attitudes and ideologies). Recently, I have been exploring the relation between socio-political orientations and threat associated with risk (e.g., Choma, Hanoch, Gummerum, & Hodson, 2013). In a second line of research I study prejudice and discrimination. My research in this area investigates intergroup attitudes, including potential mechanisms for prejudice reduction. Most recently, my colleagues and I have been studying intergroup disgust sensitivity (e.g., Choma, Hodson, & Costello, 2012; Hodson, Choma et al., 2013). I am also interested in the consequences of perceiving prejudice and discrimination, including well-being and collective action implications. Related to these lines of research, I study subjective temporal perspectives (of life satisfaction, perceived discrimination).
